About Aïda
Aida is actually two pieces of music, as well three bands:
1. An opera by Giuseppe Verdi (1871)
2. A musical (based on the opera) by Elton John and Tim Rice (2000)
3. A young Finnish poprock band
4. A three member all female Korean pop punk rock group released 2 CDs in the late 90s/early 2000s.
5. A Romanian artist.
1-2) Both of the theatrical pieces tell the story about the Ethiopian (Verdi) or Nubian (John/Rice) princess Aida who is captured and brought into slavery in Egypt. The Egyptian military commander Radames falls in love with Aida who answers his feelings. But Radames is about to marry the Pharao's daughter, Amneris¦ The story ends with the couple dying in a tomb below the desert's sand. (In the opera Radames is sentenced to death and Aida sneaks into the tomb to die with her lover. In the musical both are sentenced to death and Amneris grant them to die together)
3) The band Aida (from Finland), formed in 2006, released it's first three-piece recording "Vaiettu raja" freely on the internet in summer 2007. Aida continued its download policy with EP called "Tämän kylmän keskellä" also downloadable freely from their website www.aidayhtye.com. The newest release, "23:04/Sarastus" web single (2010) is also available under Creative Commons license.
5) Aida is a Romanian artist who debuted with DJ Andi, collaborated with Adrian Eftimie and did make various singles.
Now she is on her own, and has 2 hits:
